3 days tour from Marrakech to Merzouga

Day 1Marrakech – High Atlas – Ouarzazate – Skoura – Valley of the Roses – Dades Valley

After breakfast, your 3 days tour from Marrakech to Merzouga begins at 08:00. Your driver‑guide will meet you at your hotel or riad in Marrakech. Prepare for a panoramic, unforgettable journey across the High Atlas mountains via the spectacular Tizi n’Tichka pass, which reaches 2,260 meters.

En route, enjoy several photo stops and take in panoramic views of the mountains, Berber villages and striking landscapes. This route is regarded as one of Morocco’s most scenic.

As you climb from the plains of Marrakech, observe the change in vegetation: olive groves and forests give way to rocky slopes dotted with adobe Berber villages, gradually blending into the arid terrain of the south. Then descend toward the southern flanks of the Atlas to reach Ouarzazate — nicknamed the “Gateway to the Desert” and renowned as a filming location for many Hollywood productions.

Continue through the beautiful oasis of Skoura, known for its palm groves and historic kasbahs, then cross the fragrant, bloom-filled Valley of the Roses in spring.

By late afternoon you will arrive in the dramatic Dades Valley, a region of steep gorges, ochre cliffs and tranquil villages.

Day 2Dades Valley – Todra Gorges – Erfoud – Merzouga – Erg Chebbi Dunes

After breakfast, continue your journey through the Dades Valley. First, follow a scenic road lined with traditional kasbahs and ksour (fortified villages). The route unfolds against a backdrop of ochre, red and mauve rock formations. Next, the road winds through green oases and palm groves; finally, you will reach Tinghir, a charming town nestled at the foot of the High Atlas mountains.

A few kilometers away are the magnificent Todra Gorges. Indeed, this natural wonder features imposing limestone cliffs rising to 1300 meters, sculpted by the Todra River. Located at 1,350 meters elevation and surrounded by a lush palm oasis, the gorges offer a spectacular setting—ideal for walking and photography.

Then continue southeast to Erfoud, known as Morocco’s fossil capital; here you can visit workshops that transform ancient marine fossils into decorative pieces and marble artworks. As the terrain becomes more arid, you will travel along desert tracks to reach Merzouga, the gateway to the legendary Erg Chebbi dunes.

On arrival, swap the 4×4 for a camel ride across the golden dunes. First, soak up the desert’s rhythm at sunset; additionally, enjoy a champagne toast on the dunes. Afterwards, return to your luxury desert camp: you will be welcomed with mint tea before settling into your haïma (luxury Berber tent). Finally, relax and enjoy the starry night.

Day 3Merzouga – Erfoud – Ouarzazate – Marrakech

Very early in the morning, first admire the sunrise over the dunes, then enjoy breakfast in the desert. Next, depart for Marrakech via Erfoud and Ouarzazate, with a lunch stop en route.

This stage allows you to enjoy the desert and Atlas landscapes one last time while comfortably returning to Marrakech. Finally, you will arrive in Marrakech late in the day, ready to unwind after your journey.

I loved the 3 days tour from Marrakech to Merzouga ! The itinerary was perfectly organized, with breathtaking landscapes across the Atlas and southern valleys. The night in the Berber camp among the dunes was magical — our honeymoon with Amodo Tours was simply unforgettable.

Our driver, Youssef, was professional and warm, always available to answer questions and share insights about local culture and traditions. I highly recommend this excursion to anyone seeking an authentic Moroccan desert experience.
