Overall, this Marrakech to Erg Chigaga tour is ideal for travelers seeking a short yet enriching adventure. In conclusion, it combines southern Morocco’s heritage, landscapes and wilderness in just four days.
You leave Marrakech crossing the Tizi n’Tichka pass, enjoying mountain panoramas and traditional earthen villages along the way. In Ouarzazate you can stop for lunch and, if you wish, see the Taourirt Kasbah before driving along the Drâa Valley, famous for its long palm groves and ksars. The day ends in Agdz where you spend the night in a charming hotel in the palmery, ideal for an evening stroll and a relaxing dinner.
Following the Drâa Valley you pass through Zagora and visit Tamegroute, known for its green pottery and its ancient Qur’anic library. You then take desert tracks across hamadas and dunes toward M’Hamid, the gateway to the Sahara, and continue on to Erg Chegaga. There you experience authentic desert life: a camel ride to watch the sunset, a night of nomad music around the fire, and sleeping in a private tented bivouac or under the stars.
After watching the sunrise over the dunes, you head across wild tracks to the Iriqui Lake area with its lunar landscapes, regs and exposed fossils. The route continues via Foum Zguid and Taznakht, a village famous for Berber carpets where you can visit weaving workshops. The day finishes with a return to Ouarzazate for the night, giving you time to relax in town after the vast desert scenery.
From Ouarzazate you can visit (or view) the Taourirt Kasbah before reaching the UNESCO-listed ksar of Aït Ben Haddou with its earthen alleys and panoramic viewpoint. Crossing the Ounila Valley, you pass Telouet and see the exterior of the Pasha Glaoui’s kasbah before returning to Marrakech via the Tizi n’Tichka pass, completing the circuit with memories of varied landscapes, heritage sites and cultural encounters.
